Tight Squeeze on Zaragoza Street
Working in the San Agustin de Laredo Historic District means navigating streets laid out long before roll-off trucks existed. We took a job gutting a 1920s Spanish Colonial home where the only access was a narrow alley behind the plaza. The crew had piles of heavy plaster and lath to remove, but a standard truck would have blocked the neighbor's garage. Leaving debris on the cobblestones violates preservation codes, so we needed a precise solution fast.
I drove our single-axle hook-lift truck personally to angle a 20-yard bin into that tight spot without scraping the historic masonry. We laid down heavy plywood to protect the pavers and coordinated the swap-outs for early morning to avoid the tourist traffic. The contractors filled the container with heavy debris, and we hauled it away before lunch. The site remained clean, compliant, and completely accessible for the neighbors throughout the project.
Esteban fit that dumpster into a spot three other companies refused to try.
